Mind Over Machine with Hubert Dreyfus (1929 – 2017)

Episode notes from New Thinking Allowed with Jeffrey Mishlove

This video is a special release from the original Thinking Allowed series that ran on public television from 1986 until 2002. It was recorded in about 1989.

Human intuition and perception are basic and essential phenomena of consciousness. As such, they will never be replicated by computers. This is the challenging notion of Hubert Dreyfus, PhD, archcritic of the artificial intelligence establishment. Dr. Dreyfus, was professor of philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley, is author of What Computers Can’t Do and co-author of Mind Over Machine.
