We are all moving into a new normal âready or not. The world is opening back up a period of lockdown and itâs imperative that we turn over our hearts to God as much as we can in this time. Because even though our plans have to change, Godâs donât. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run into it and they are safe.
In this message, âFlex Spaceâ preached by Pastor Steven Furtick of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC we learn how to expand our expectations to include things we didnât plan for. Sometimes our minds and hearts get cluttered up with expectations of our own making. We wed ourselves to what was, often prohibiting broken expectations from being transformed.
In Isaiah 54 verses 1-4, the prophet Isaiah commands the nation of Israel to sing a song of deliverance 200 years before that prophecy comes to pass. While Paul is writing the New Testament letter to the Philippians he connects those 200-year-old dots and tells the people of God â with a word he makes up (apokaradokia) â that they need to stretch their heads forward in hope. The best is yet to come.
We think we need to have strength to come through a season of struggle, but the Bible teaches us that in our weaknesses God is made strong. âSometimes, the reason God doesnât show up when you want Him to is because Heâs planning to show off when He comes.â In other words, our weakness is Godâs âFlex Space.â
We pray that even though you may have had a lot taken from you in this season, this message will help you fight back with faith. The enemy may have taken a lot, but he canât take your song.
Isaiah 54 verses 1-4:
1 âSing, barren woman,
you who never bore a child;
burst into song, shout for joy,
you who were never in labor;
because more are the children of the desolate woman
than of her who has a husband,â
says the Lord.
2 âEnlarge the place of your tent,
stretch your tent curtains wide,
do not hold back;
lengthen your cords,
strengthen your stakes.
3 For you will spread out to the right and to the left;
your descendants will dispossess nations
and settle in their desolate cities.
4 âDo not be afraid; you will not be put to shame.
Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
You will forget the shame of your youth
and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.
