Kinesthetic Intelligence with Samuel Ben-Or Avital

Samuel Ben-Or Avital is a professionally trained mime artist, teacher of mime, kinesthetic awareness, and Kabbalah. In 1971, Mr. Avital founded Le Centre du Silence Mime School (See, “History of Le Centre du Silence Mime School”) in Boulder, Colorado. He is author of He is the author of The Invisible Stairway: Kabbalistic Meditations on The Hebrew Letters. He is also author of The BodySpeak Manual.

Here he describes his background studying mime in Paris. He points out that, unlike other artists, virtually all mimes compose their own pieces. He notes that subtle movements can convey enormous emotions. He also points out that every part of the mime’s body becomes an instrument of expression. Certain principles of Avital’s “BodySpeak” method are actually derived from the mystical teachings of Kabbalah. In particular, it is important for the mime to work from an inner center of silence.
