Russell Targ, a laser physicist, cofounded the remote viewing research program at SRI International. He is coauthor of Mind Reach, The Mind Race, Miracles of Mind, The Heart of the Mind, and The End of Suffering. He is author of Limitless Mind and The Reality of ESP: A Physicist’s Proof of Psychic Abilities. He is also coeditor of the anthology, Mind At Large. His new documentary, Third Eye Spies, is released in February 2019.
Here he reviews the history of his work at the military-industrial think tank, SRI International, developing the remote viewing protocol for use by the CIA and various intelligence agencies. He describes his background as a laser scientist and his early life experiences that led him to develop a certainty regarding the possibility of psychic functioning. He also explores the ethical considerations involved in associating with organizations such as the CIA. He points out that one can find detailed instructions for remote viewing in ancient Buddhist and yogic texts.
New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in “parapsychology” ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). He is past-vice-president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology, and is the recipient of the Pathfinder Award from that association for his contributions to the study of consciousness.
