Former Mexican Mafia member Rene “Boxer” Enriquez sits down with VladTV to discuss his early life in Cerritos, California, and the path that led him from a working-class family into Artesia 13 as a child. Enriquez explains how his older brother Mark influenced him, how he says he was “jumped in” at just 12 years old, and how gang rivalries with Hawaiian Gardens, Norwalk, and other Los Angeles-area neighborhoods escalated into violence. He recalls the killing of a homeboy at El Dorado Park, retaliatory shootings, and participating in his first drive-by around age 14. Enriquez also breaks down the meaning of “13,” its connection to the Mexican Mafia, and the culture surrounding Southern California street gangs. Convicted of two murders before becoming a federal informant in 2002, Enriquez offers a firsthand account of gang life, loyalty, violence, and consequence.
