In this VladTV interview, former Mexican Mafia member Ramon “Mundo” Mendoza details the moment his undercover cooperation became public after Kern County homicide charges were reopened in 1978. Mendoza describes being placed in custody with figures including Joel Morgan, “Black Dan,” and Vital Rodriguez, hearing murder plans while preparing to testify in cases across Fresno, Hayward, Visalia, and Los Angeles. He recalls taking the stand against former associates, the pressure on his family, and being moved into protective housing before entering Witness Protection.
Mendoza also recounts a warning from U.S. Marshals in Buffalo, New York: authorities believed the Mexican Mafia had traded murder contracts with the Italian Mafia to target him. With Ronald Reagan in town delaying the marshals, Mendoza says he was told to pack lightly, meet at Batavia Downs, and was later flown to Philadelphia near Veterans Stadium while officials conducted a threat assessment.
